The Weekly’s outdone itself yet again. In a grab for readership- because they can’t keep on talking about SB1070, and what subject will always grab people’s attention? Aliens. It appeals to our escapist fantasies- this issue featured a hilariously CHEESY article about aliens. The last line literally quotes a scene with Jodie Foster in which her character is told to “prove” LOVE. That which is the “strongest human chemical,” “brighter than any star”! I kid you not. These are verbatim statements from the closing sentence. The author was stoned when he wrote this article.

That and he, like so many people even the scientists, are so anthropocentric about the idea of communicating with “our brothers” (oh and patriarchal- brothers?? maybe they’re all unisexual, or egg-laying! gah).

Even scientists who are careful to caution against wanting to see ourselves in the mirror when we think of alien life- and YES, yes, that’s all 99% of this is about, wanting to see ourselves in the image of God. “proven” to be the standard of intelligent life-but I think it’s equally ridiculous to assume that WE are intelligent life. or to think that if intelligent life exists elsewhere, WITH technological tools similar to ours (what are the odds of that?) that they would WANT TO CONTACT US.

The “fifty-year silence” that people think disproves the existence of intelligent life. As far as I can see our species has proven itself to be the least intelligent of all life forms on our planet, the only species that can’t grasp the basic concept of living in an interdependent ecosystem with a specific contribution and carrying capacity. Our species invented nuclear bombs! I don’t see what the fuck is intelligent that WORMS on our planet don’t exceed us in. Worms MAKE THINGS GROW WHEN THEY POOP. Coolest animals ever.

And most life on our planet is intelligent enough to fucking avoid us when possible

I would assume life on other planets would do the same. IF it was intelligent.

Since we’re clearly looking for life just like us- ideally in “man” form (man, God.. uggh our science is so godawful misinformed by male-human-centred religion) and wanting to communicate with us, ABLE to communicate with virtually the same technologies that WE’VE developed-

then I would say, we have found unintelligent life. go us
